School Counselors manage their programming by aligning their department with the school and district vision, mission, and beliefs. They plan, progress monitor, and evaluate their delivery of services through the collection, analysis, and disaggregation of student data, identifying trends and areas of concern. The American School Counseling Association provides tools for school counselors to manage their programming and ensure program efficacy through the ASCA National Model Framework (ASCA, 2019).
To stay student-centered, U7 school counselors strive to dedicate at least 80% of their school day to direct and indirect student services. The remaining 20% of the school day is allocated to fair-share tasks and other essential duties that, while not always directly related to school counseling programs, are crucial for ensuring the school's safe and efficient operation.
In alignment with the ASCA National Model, all Union Public School Counselors complete a Use-of-Time Calculator each semester. Please learn more about direct and indirect services on the Deliver page.
